My daughter and I attended our first ProScout weekend in Atlanta in June of 1996. Christy was 9 years old at the time. We had a wonderful time together, we learned a lot and we have enjoyed fond memories of the experience. While the agents did show some interest in Christy, she was not really suited for the Children's market. She needed time to develop.
Christy always wanted to attend another ProScout weekend, both to once again test the market for a possible modeling career and to have those two special days of time for us. A business conflict prevented our attendence last June, so when the ProScout invitation arrived for the December event in Atlanta, she was absolutley determined to go. Now, more mature and focused on her goals, Christy paid close attention to all of your speakers. She enjoyed attending the commercial print and runway seminars. This time around, her interests were more clearly defined (due in part to her previous experience at ProScout) and she was better able to identify her "niche". She knew what she wanted, but I honestly did not think that within a week she would be offered a contract with Elite. We are already very busy getting Christy ready to "launch" this spring!
I am a great fan of ProScout. I believe that you take an honest approach to a competitive business. You are responsible in embracing and affirming individuals of all types and talents to break "super-model" stereotypes and to show how people of all shapes, sizes and talents can have rewarding careers. You impress upon everyone that they have to put in the work, which is true in the modeling/talent business and in every aspect of life. Timing is important, luck plays a role, intelligence is an asset, but in the end, a positive attitude and hard work are the keys to sucess! What a valuable lesson for young people!
We will keep you posted on Christy's career. In the meantime, please let us know what we can do to help ProScout! If we can ever be of assistance with open calls or invitational weekends, we would gladly donate our time.
